Cut, Copy, Paste and Move Branches.

In this video you will learn a number of ways in which you can transfer branches to different areas of your Map.

Further Information

You can move branches around your Mind Map very simply by clicking and dragging on the outer blue ring of the branch target which will appear when you move your mouse pointer near to the end of a branch. You can also move branches using the below methods:

Cut & Paste:

  • First select the branch you wish to cut or copy.
  • Go to the Home tab and under Clipboard select either Cut or Copy. On a Mac this is under the Edit menu.
  • Now select the destination branch and select Paste which can also be found under Clipboard.
  • If you chose to cut the branch, it and its child branches will be removed from their original position and pasted onto the new destination. If you selected to copy the branch, a copy of the original branch and its child branches will be pasted onto the new destination branch.

You can also use the standard Windows shortcut keys for this process too:

Copy = CTRL + C
Cut = CTRL + X
Paste = CTRL + V

The Mac keyboard shortcut keys are as follows:

Copy = CMD + C
Cut = CMD + X
Paste = CMD + V

Drag & Drop:

  • Click on the branch you want to move and drag.
  • Notice the cursor has a small box next to it and a faint copy of the selected branch moves with it.
  • Drag the cursor over the branch that you want to place the branch onto and release the mouse button.
  • You can convert a child branch to a main branch by dragging it to the Central Idea.
  • By holding Alt and then dragging and dropping your branch onto the white workspace you can create a new Central Idea.

You can complete the above process with multiple branches by selecting more than one branch. To do this Ctrl+Left click on the branches to select them. On a Mac the shortcut key is Cmd + Left Click.

Comments

Add comments to branches in your Mind Maps. Comments are different to notes in that, generally, comments are more temporary and questioning content. For example a comment would be useful as a note to self, or a note to the author of the Map to, for example, ‘Check this date is accurate’, before finalising your map to present to others, or send in an email.

Further Information

To add visible comments to any branch or object in your Mind Map:

  • Select the branch or object that you want to comment on.
  • Go to the Review tab. On a Mac click the Review menu.
  • Under Comments, click on New.
  • A comment will now appear in the workspace. This will default to either the left or right hand of the workspace, depending on which side of the workspace the branch or object is located.
  • Type your comment.

The comment will be assigned to the user’s account name of whoever is logged into Windows/Mac OS (your Windows/Mac User Account Name will be used by default).

If you share your Mind Map with others your comments will be visible and they will also be able to add further comments which will be listed under their Window’s or Mac user name.

To delete a comment:

  • Select the comment by clicking on it.
  • Go to the Review tab. On a Mac, the Review menu.
